May 18, 1957, Bucharest, Romania), is a Romanian musician and music producer, active in Germany and Western Europe, residing on the Spanish island of Ibiza, best known as the creator of the music project Enigma. Mihai Cretu studied classical music at the number 2 high school in Bucharest and in Paris, starting with 1968. Between 1975 and 1978, he attended the courses of the Frankfurt Academy of Music, obtaining a degree in music. A pianist, Cretu worked as a producer and keyboardist for Frank Farian, the German who was from the 1970s to the 1980s, behind the great commercial successes called Boney M and Milli Vanilli. Mihai Cretu, known under the artistic pseudonym of Curly MC, worked before his musical project Enigma with numerous producers, musicians and artists, including Sandra Cretu, Frank Farian, Boney M, Goombay Dance Band, Peter Cornelius, Manfred "Tissy" Thiers and Mike Oldfield. During the project, Enigma collaborated with other musicians such as Jens Gad, Frank Peterson, David Fairstein, ATB, Jam & Spoon, Peter Ries, Ruth-Ann Boyle and Andru Donalds. Focused on music production and arrangement, Cretu works in his own music studio, called the A.R.T. Studio, located right at the personal residence of the couple Michael and Sandra Cretu, from the Balearic Islands, on the island of Ibiza. According to his own website, by the end of 2001, Mihai Cretu would have sold over 100 million albums.
